KOAHNIC BROADCAST CORPORATION EARNS THREE PRIZES IN 2026 INDIGENOUS MEDIA AWARDS
ANCHORAGE, AK — July 2026 — Koahnic Broadcast Corporation is pleased to announce that its newsroom and national production staff have been awarded three top honors in the 2026 Indigenous Media Awards, presented annually by the Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA).
The international competition recognizes outstanding coverage of Indigenous communities, cultures, and issues across print, digital, radio, and television media throughout Turtle Island.
Koahnic was recognized across multiple broadcast categories for excellence in national journalism, audio storytelling, and community coverage:
• Best Coverage of Native America / Indigenous Affairs (Radio/Audio): Awarded to the National Native News newsroom for breaking coverage and feature reporting on national policy, sovereignty, and Native community health.
• Best Feature Story (Radio/Audio): Recognized for an in-depth feature broadcast on Native America Calling exploring cultural revitalization and language retention initiatives in Alaska Native communities.
• Excellence in Sound/Production (Radio/Audio): Awarded to the production team behind Indigefi for creative sound design and technical excellence in music programming.
